Aeronautical standards for the certification of avionic systems and ATM


This course enables participants to learn about the civil and military regulatory context under which any certification procedure in the aeronautical field falls. In particular, it deals with the main recognized standards of the industry, whether relating to on-board or air traffic control systems.


The course lasts 5 days (30 hours) and includes:

  • 27 hours of classroom-based learning
  • 1 visit


This course is specifically oriented toward understanding and using acceptable means of compliance, whether proposed by regulations or commonly accepted. The regulatory modules help to put these means of compliance in perspective and understand their founding principles. The modules focusing on the standards themselves go into the details of their application and review their recent developments.The system part, with the safety-oriented engineering approach (ARP4754a) and the environmental qualification (DO-160), as well as software (DO-178) and programmable electronic components (DO-254), are all addressed.The various modules are produced by experienced and recognized industry members who are largely involved in the drafting and evaluation of these standards (consultant, EASA auditors, DGA, DGAC, civil or military authorities). A visit to DGA Techniques Aéronautiques, formerly CEAT, the aeronautical test center, will be organized to demonstrate the majority of means used for ground tests deployed during certification.


Course level: Basic/Advanced

This course is for everyone, including engineers and executives; no prior training required in the field. However, some topics require basic IT knowledge.

Expert in Critical Systems and Software Engineering at the DGAC (Direction Générale de l’Aviation Civile or General Directorate of Civil Aviation).


  • Certification of civil aircraft
