Operational management of a project - Selecting the right tools and methods


The course is for:

  • professionals working on demanding and large-scale projects.

It covers:

  • which tools and methods to use and how to ensure they will be effective.


The course is 2 days (12 hours) spread over several months.

Also included are Crossknowledge online lessons.


This course combines online courses and face-to-face case studies: methods and tools are acquired individually (using recognized and proven teaching resources) and their use is verified with professionals experienced in project engineering.

Learners commence the course with a project of their own.

Throughout the course everyone uses the tools and methods that they deem useful and relevant for their project.

The final review is a chance to verify (and even modify) what has been used/implemented and to gainskills in project review.


Course level: Basic

The course is intended for professionals working in project management.

Prior professional experience is recommended.

  • First day spent framing project management
    • Case study to frame the issues and problems of project preparation…
    • and project review and management.
    • Review of the various learner projects and devising a work plan for each
    • Each learner receives a login to connect to the Highware platform
  • Online courses
    • Each learner has access to the ten online Crossknowledge modules on project management:
    • 1. Defining the project (genesis of the project: from idea to definition, key roles)
    • 2. Pacing the project by its groundwork (intermediate groundwork and strategies for stopping a project)
    • 3. Breaking down the project (tree view of the whole project and visibility levels)
    • 4. Organizing the project (identifying and negotiating resources)
    • 5. Launching the project (frameworks, project launch review)
    • 6. Piloting the project (measuring progress and maintaining conditions for project completion)
    • 7. Closing the project (providing support and resources)
    • 8. Managing the project risks (operational and financial mechanisms and alternative resources)
    • 9. Managing the human factors of the project (involvement from others and anticipation of their post-project activity)
    • 10. Managing the post-project (supporting change of users and relevance of the project)
  • Second day of implementation/use review
    • Review of the cases prepared by the different participants and discussion of the optimization of the methods and tools used
    • Analysis of the different uses by participants on their individual projects and preparation of a project management review
