Engineering in healthcare organizations

OBJECTIVE :

  • To explore the different health professions with methods and techniques of organizational engineering.
  • To provide the means to various healthcare workers to deploy continuous improvement initiatives at all levels of the organization.
  • To enable employees to optimize the management of ongoing and future development and restructuring projects.
  • To provide supervisors/managers the means to manage the risks and limitations of organizational engineering methods.

At the end of the course, learners will be able to:

  • understand and apply problem-solving and permanent progress resolutions
  • understand and implement the main organizational engineering tools in a context-appropriate way
  • understand the limits of these approaches.

COURSE DURATION AND TIMETABLE :

The course lasts 2 consecutive days (14 hours) + 1 optional day (7 hours).

GENERAL APPROACH :

The course explores the tools and methods used for organizational diagnosis and problem-solving in a hospital context with the aim of enabling the agents of these organizations to improve the daily lives of patients and staff.

The training is based on the simulated operation of a hospital's emergency service. Around 12 participants can be accepted.

PREREQUISITE :

Course level:

The training is for any healthcare worker practicing in hospitals, clinics, medical practices, etc.

No technical prerequisites.

Day 1

  • Organizational diagnosis
    • Introduction to Organizational Engineering
    • "Governing Principle" simulation (initial version)
    • Introduction to Organizational Analysis tools
    • Application to the "Governing Principle" case for diagnosis
    • Summary and debrief

Day 2

  • Ongoing improvement
    • Introduction to problem solving methods
    • Application to the "Governing Principle" case for solution design
    • "Governing Principle" simulation (improved version)
    • Summary and debrief

Day 3

  • Change management and Advanced Tools
    • Introduction to advanced engineering tools (end of day 2)
    • Introduction to the managerial dimension of organizational engineering
    • Application to the "Governing Principle" case for designing implementation plans
    • Summary and debrief
    • Training course evaluation
