Probabilistic approaches in mechanics

Application to aircraft structures and other domains

OBJECTIVE :

The purpose of this course is to provide technicians and engineers involved in structural analysis with methods and tools to take into account uncertainties in their application.

COURSE DURATION AND TIMETABLE :

The course lasts 1 day (7 hours).

GENERAL APPROACH :

Structural analysis require the consideration of several sources of uncertainties [material and load uncertainties for instance].

Basic approaches, generally deterministic, are often applied because of their simplicity, but sometime criticized when the results are found unrealistically severe. Actually these deterministic approaches are often not adapted to take into account uncertainties with accuracy.

Reliability approaches enable to take into account uncertainties with an adequate accuracy and provide with and optimized and acceptable level of safety.

This course provides technicians and engineers with reliability methods and tools for their applications.

Applications coming from aircraft structures are detailed. Examples about other domains are shown.

PREREQUISITE :

Level: Basic

Technicians and engineers with background in probability and statistic methods.
