Sensors and instrumentation in fluid mechanics

OBJECTIVE :

This course, intended for users of equipment but also those wishing to set industrial tests or more fundamental research experiments, will enable learners to acquire the general principles of measurement systems for the rational use of instrumental techniques in fluid mechanics.

COURSE DURATION AND TIMETABLE :

The course lasts 5 days (30 hours) and includes:

  • 7 x 3-hours lectures
  • 3 x 1-hour sessions in an engineering office/department
  • 3 x 2-hours practical work sessions

GENERAL APPROACH :

Making learners aware of the various issues encountered when experimental techniques are used in fluid mechanics.

An examination of the general characteristics of measurement systems is used to describe the function of modern measurement tools and to evaluate their performance.

Demonstrations of the latest techniques in instrumentation (laser velocimetry, infrared thermography, quantitative imaging, acoustics) are provided as part of the practical work sessions.

PREREQUISITE :

Course level: Advanced

Participants must have basic knowledge of fluid mechanics and knowledge of sensors and components of a measurement system (minimum graduate level).
