Inertial techniques and systems
This course is for engineers who want to acquire a basic knowledge of inertial techniques.
It will provide an understanding of the main issues raised by the design and implementation of inertial navigation systems and their future prospects.
The course lasts 5 days (29 hours) and includes:
A general introduction (1 hour)
13 illustrated theory-based lectures (24 hours)
1 practical work session to experience the phenomena (2.5 hours at DGA MI)
Visit to the assessment laboratories (1 hour)
An assessment of the course (0.5 hour)
The aim is to provide a general overview of inertial techniques. The principles are explained in terms of gyrometric and accelerometric sensors and the inertial systems that use them.
The issues of "design", "implementation" and "evaluation" are addressed in relation to technologies and applications. A visit to the laboratories at the DGA/Maitrise de L'information center helps illustrate the various points discussed.
The course concludes with the evolution of inertial techniques.
Issues around inertial navigation systems are included in training course AED 048: "Navigation and guidance systems".
Course level: Basic
It is desirable that the participants have some knowledge of vectorial calculus and rational mechanics.
